The Rule of Nines is a quick field method for estimating total body surface area (TBSA) affected by a burn in an adult, dividing the body into regions that are each roughly 9% (or a multiple of 9%): head & neck 9%, each arm 9%, the entire front torso 18%, the entire back torso 18%, each leg 18%, and the groin 1%.
A rough estimate to guide severity and transport. Pediatric proportions differ.
