Name: ______________________   Date: ____________   A region bounded by a logarithm, a line and the x-axis (9 points)

Graph

The region RR bounded by y=ln⁡xy = \ln x, y=4−xy = 4 - x and the xx-axis

Let RR be the region in the first quadrant bounded by the graph of y=ln⁡xy = \ln x, the line y=4−xy = 4 - x and the xx-axis, as shown. The graph of y=ln⁡xy = \ln x and the line meet at the point (c,ln⁡c)(c, \ln c). A graphing calculator is required.

  1. (a) Find the area of RR. [2 points]

  2. (b) Find the volume of the solid generated when RR is revolved about the vertical line x=5x = 5. [3 points]

  3. (c) Region RR is the base of a solid. For this solid, each cross section perpendicular to the xx-axis is a semicircle whose diameter lies in RR. Find the volume of the solid. [2 points]

  4. (d) The horizontal line y=ky = k divides RR into two regions of equal area. Write, but do not solve, an equation involving one or more integrals whose solution gives kk. [2 points]
