For school admins
Canvas and Schoology, one-time setup.
LTI 1.3, deep linking and grade passback
Status: LevlPrep for Canvas and Schoology is switched on school by school while it is new. A registration saved below waits until LevlPrep has checked it (usually within two school days); launches from your LMS start working then. If saving says it is not turned on yet, email [email protected] with your school’s name.
What teachers get
- In an LMS assignment, a teacher picks LevlPrep, signs in to LevlPrep and chooses one of their class’s assignments (LTI Deep Linking).
- Students open it from the LMS, sign in to LevlPrep once, and land on the course with that assignment. A student who is not in the teacher’s LevlPrep class yet is sent to join it first.
- Required assignments get a gradebook column. The teacher sends scores from the assignment’s page in LevlPrep (LTI Assignment and Grade Services); nothing is sent automatically.

LMSs often show tools inside a frame, where browsers may not remember a sign-in. If students keep being asked to sign in, set the tool to open in a new tab; the LevlPrep page also offers a new-tab link.
Canvas, step by step

https://api.levlprep.com/lti/config.json. In Redirect URIs puthttps://api.levlprep.com/lti/launch. Save. - Turn the key On and copy its Client ID (the number in the Details column).
- Admin → Settings → Apps → View App Configurations → + App, choose By Client ID, paste the Client ID, install. Open the installed app’s settings and copy its Deployment ID.

Schoology, step by step
- Get permission to build apps: in an enterprise Schoology, a System Administrator grants Schoology Apps: Develop apps; otherwise request developer access from Schoology.
- At app.schoology.com/apps/publisher, press Add App and make an LTI 1.3 app with the login and redirect URLs and keyset URL in the table above; turn on Deep Linking and Assignment and Grade Services.
- On the app’s profile, Options → API Info shows the Client ID. Install the app for your school; Configure next to it in the district app list shows the Deployment ID.
- Fill in the form below with Schoology and those two values.
Schoology’s menus change more often than Canvas’s; if a field is named differently, the values in the table above are what matter.

What the LMS and LevlPrep share
- The LMS sends, at each launch: its user id for the person, their role, the course’s id and title and, for graded links, the gradebook column’s address. LevlPrep keeps the user id and the column address for a student who signs in, so grades can go back; the rest is used for that launch only.
- LevlPrep sends the LMS: the assignment link a teacher picked, and the scores the class’s owner chooses to send, only to the gradebook columns of the LMS course that teacher linked, on your LMS’s own address.
- Leaving the LevlPrep class, or deleting the LevlPrep account, deletes the stored LMS id. More on student data privacy.
